Assisted by local nature groups and holidaymakers themselves, David Bellamy Conservation looks at virtually every aspect of park management – from the protection of plant and animal habitats to the efficient use of energy and recycling. Helping visitors to understand conservation is also considered an important qualifying feature. Three levels of excellence can be achieved: Gold, Silver and Bronze.

It is great to receive awards, but here at Mother Ivey’s Bay Holiday Park, we are immensely proud of our 22nd David Bellamy Conservation Gold Award.

The Living Wage

Mother Ivey’s Bay is the first holiday park in the whole UK to become a fully accredited Living Wage employer, offering great career opportunities, training and decent pay to all staff. For many years Mother Ivey’s Bay has paid well above the national minimum wage and it is therefore a fairly small step making the commitment to pay at least the Living Wage to all staff.

Living Hours Employer

Mother Ivey’s Bay is one of the first holiday parks to implement this new standard and become an accredited Living Hours Employer.  We provide our staff with the security and stability of hours they need to meet their everyday needs. The Living Hour Employer standard has been developed to ensure that people have the predictable working patterns and income to better plan their lives.

World Responsible Tourism Awards 2018 – Silver (Best for Employment)

The WTM World Responsible Tourism Awards are presented each year and are looking for practices and initiatives that will inspire others and that are replicable across the industry. WTM’s ambition is to showcase great examples of Responsible Tourism in practice and to showcase them to educate others, including consumers, about what can be achieved and to challenge others to do as well or better.

The judges’ reason behind the award, “Patrick Langmaid, the owner of Mother Ivey’s Bay Holiday Park, is a keen campaigner for the Living Wage, winning the Living Wage Leadership Award for the South West region in 2015. The owner cites productivity, loyalty and staff retention as important factors which translate into an overall cost benefit for the business. Staff retention increases the resilience of the staff and reduces training costs.  Mother Ivey’s Bay Holiday Park is the only accredited Living Wage campsite in the UK. Cornwall is not a wealthy county and investing in the tourism industry to provide high-quality seasonal jobs, and all year-round jobs have had a positive impact on the locale.”
